CarrierScopePrivacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information CarrierScope ("CarrierScope," "we," "us") collects, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to the CarrierScope websites and applications (the "Service"). CarrierScope is the controller of the personal information processed through the Service. By using the Service, you agree to this Policy.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account — name, business name, email, password.
- Billing — handled by our payment processor; we receive limited details such as the last four digits of a card and billing status, not full card numbers.
- Uploaded documents — files you choose to upload, such as loss runs, certificates of insurance, or maintenance plans, and the facts we extract from them.
- Search inputs — the DOT and MC numbers and other queries you enter.
- Communications — messages you send us, including through the contact form.
Collected automatically
- Usage — pages viewed, features used, actions taken.
- Device and log data — IP address, browser type, timestamps.
- Cookies — to keep you signed in and understand usage (see below).
From public and third-party sources
We retrieve public motor-carrier data published by the FMCSA and other sources to generate scores and reports. This data concerns businesses (motor carriers) and their operating records.
2. How we use information
- to provide, operate, and improve the Service, including scores, reports, and verified packets;
- to read and extract facts from documents you upload, and link them to their source;
- to process payments, manage subscriptions, and run your free trial;
- to respond to inquiries and send service messages and any alerts you enable;
- to secure the Service, prevent fraud and abuse, and enforce our Terms;
- to comply with legal obligations and protect our rights.
Where required by law, our legal bases for processing are performance of our contract with you, our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Service, your consent (which you may withdraw), and compliance with legal obligations.
3. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We disclose information only as follows:
- Service providers — vendors who host, process payments, send email, or provide analytics, under contracts that limit their use of the data.
- At your direction — when you generate a verified packet and share its link, the recipient can view what’s in it.
- Legal and safety — when required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of CarrierScope, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers — in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
4. Verified packets and share links
A verified packet is something you create and choose to share. Anyone with the link may view its contents, so you decide who receives one. You can disable or regenerate links from your account where that feature is available.
5. Data retention
We keep your information while your account is active and as needed to provide the Service, then for a reasonable period to meet legal, accounting, and security needs. You may request deletion as described below.
6. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, port, or restrict the processing of your personal information, and to object to certain processing. Residents of California (CCPA/CPRA) have the right to know, delete, and correct, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we do not sell or share it), and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights; you may use an authorized agent. Residents of the EEA, UK, and similar regions may exercise their rights and lodge a complaint with their supervisory authority. To make a request, email services@carrierscope.com; we verify requests and respond as required by law. You can also update account details in settings and unsubscribe from non-essential email at any time.
To dispute the accuracy of public FMCSA data shown in the Service, use the FMCSA’s official DataQs process at dataqs.fmcsa.dot.gov. We show public data as sourced and can re-pull a carrier’s record after an official correction.
7. Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is fully secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Cookies
We use strictly necessary cookies to run the Service (for example, to keep you signed in) and limited analytics cookies to understand usage. You can control cookies in your browser; disabling some may affect how the Service works.
9. Children
The Service is for business use, is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
10. International data transfers
We operate in the United States, and your information may be processed there and in other countries that may not provide the same level of protection as your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for cross-border transfers. If you use the Service from outside the U.S., you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in the U.S.
11. Changes
We may update this Policy from time to time. For material changes we will give reasonable notice. The "Last updated" date shows the latest revision.
